Marth Mariam Vanitha Samajam (which translates to Saint Mary's Women's Association) is the women's ministry of the Malankara Orthodox Church. The central committee and local chapters organize local, regional, and diocese-wide conferences, retreats, seminars, fundraisers, and service opportunities for the spiritual growth of the women of the church. Local Ministry
In our church, MMVS (or "Samajam") meets almost every Sunday after Holy Qurbana. We sing devotional songs, read the Bible, and pray together. These meetings contribute to great spiritual growth of our members and provide unique opportunities for women to fellowship together. We also participate in events and fundraising for charities back home in India, organized by the diocese.
Responding to COVID-19
During these unprecedented times, our Samajam has been responding to the growing spiritual need in two special ways. Under the kind and able leadership of our Vicar, Rev. Father Thomas Mathew, the Samajam has been conducting a special evening prayer daily by phone for those affected by the virus and for its eradication. We have also been participating in a collective Bible reading initiative, through which members read portions of Scripture throughout the day. If you are interested in joining either of these initiatives, we would love to have you. Please contact either the Secretary or Treasurer for more information.
In our own simple ways, our Marth Mariam Vanitha Samajam tries to uphold the motto of "Pray, Act, Shine." We will continue to pray for the continued growth and strength of our ministry and our church.
